D3 Announces New Hires


VIENNA, Virginia, January 24, 2013 – Over the past few months, D3 Systems welcomed eight highly qualified individuals to the D3 team. After a rigorous selection process of over 300 applicants, D3 is proud to announce the addition of six research analysts, a controller, and a statistician.  These individuals hail from diverse backgrounds, with an impressive array of experience and education that will support D3 Systems in better serving its clientele and upholding its mission.

Alex Brezinski, Assistant Research Analyst

Mr. Brezinski joins the D3 team after completing his Master’s Degree at American University’s School of International Service.  He previously worked at the Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy as the program manager for Civilian-Military Coordination, as well as serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jordan from 2008-2010.  He brings academic experience in quantitative analysis, in addition to field experience in qualitative analysis of development projects. Time spent living abroad has enhanced him with invaluable skills for understanding the cultural context of life in rural areas of the Middle East, as well as competency in colloquial Arabic.

Michael Caughey, Assistant Research Analyst

Mr. Caughey recently completed a Master’s Degree in Comparative and Regional Studies from the American University’s School of International Service. Before coming to D3, Michael interned with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security where he gained firsthand experience creating surveys and collecting data for the defense industrial base. During the course of his degree program, he studied at Ritsumeikan University in Japan as part of the Global Cooperation Program where he met students from across the world with diverse opinions about the state of the world and America’s place in it – an experience that triggered his interest in public opinion worldwide.

Leslie Dishman, Assistant Research Analyst

Ms. Dishman received her Master’s Degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Southern Illinois University.  She has accumulated several years of research experience during both her undergraduate and graduate studies.  As a Career Opportunities in Research (COR) Associate from 2006-2009, she gained experience conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, developing and revising surveys, conducting face-to -face interviews and focus groups, and presenting research at both local and national conferences. She also has HR background in mentoring, training, evaluation, and job analysis.

Elizabeth Hood, Assistant Research Analyst

Ms. Hood recently graduated from George Mason University in May 2012. She received her Bachelor’s Degrees in both Global Affairs and Sociology, with concentrations in the Middle East and North Africa.  She also received IT certifications through the Volgenau School of Technology at George Mason University, and studied abroad for one year at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, where she gained most of her statistical training.

Nicholas Malouta, Assistant Research Analyst

Mr. Malouta completed his Master’s Degree in Global Theory and History and International Economics at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC. He has previously held internships at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. While completing his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, Nick studied abroad in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Argentina.

Kelley Milligan, Controller

Ms. Milligan is D3’s Controller, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operation of all accounting, contracting, facility security and finance functions for the company.  She has over nine years of experience in the telecommunication, security, construction and hospitality industries, as well as experience in attestation, personal and corporate taxation, and government contracting.   Ms. Milligan received her Bachelor’s of Science from George Mason University and her certification as a CPA from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Nina Sabarre, Assistant Research Analyst

Ms. Sabarre interned with D3 Systems for three summers during her undergraduate and graduate career at Virginia Tech.  In 2011, she received her Bachelor’s Degrees in both Political Science and Philosophy, with a minor in Urban Affairs and Planning. She is currently working on her Master’s in Political Science from Virginia Tech, with a concentration on collaborative governance.  Throughout her academic career, she gained experience collecting and analyzing survey data on pedagogy in the social sciences. Over the past year, she worked part-time for D3 Systems from Blacksburg, VA.  As a part-time employee, she contributed to projects across all D3 teams, on both quantitative and qualitative research projects, focusing on questionnaire design, methodology, quality control, data processing, and data analysis.

David Rae, Statistician

Mr. Rae interned for D3 Systems this past summer.  He is currently working on his Master’s in Statistics from American University.  His coursework has focused on statistical programming, survey methods, and modern statistical modeling methods.  Previously, he worked as program coordinator for an environmental consulting firm in Portland, Oregon, where he designed incentive programs and quality control procedures.  He completed his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Purdue University.
