D3 Presents WIMC Poster at MPSA

Tysons Corner, Virginia, March 24, 2014 — D3 Systems will present a poster, “Women in Muslim Countries: A Multinational Analysis,” at the 72nd annual Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) conference. The conference will be held Thursday, April 3rd -Sunday, April 6th at the Historic Palmer House Hilton hotel in Chicago, IL.   D3’s poster will be presented on Thursday, April 3rd from 4:35 to 6:15 pm.

Through its Women in Muslim Countries (WIMC) research program, D3 has collected data on Muslim women across the globe. From 2007 to 2014, WIMC collected data in 25 countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, UAE, and Yemen. Countries are regularly added. Most countries have national stratified random samples to capture the attitudes and behaviors of the female population. We measure women’s empowerment in actual daily practice, providing a deep look into the oft-perceived gap between current public policy and empowerment initiatives and actual practice on the personal and local level.

Samantha Chiu and Dameka Williams will report key findings, examine national trends, compare cross-cultural differences, and investigate significant shifts in opinion and/or behavior between demographic groups (age, education, employment, ethnicity and income). The survey results suggest a rich and diverse spectrum of opinions among Muslim women. The complex methodology and comparisons between face-to-face and CATI research designs will be discussed.

We look forward to sharing our findings and we hope to see you there!
